When can I enroll in Medicare?

Answer:

You don’t automatically get Medicare when you become eligible. You must sign up. You can enroll in Medicare during the initial enrollment period that begins three months before the month you turn 65 and ends three months after the month you turn 65. To apply, call or visit your local Social Security office, or call Social Security at 1-800-722-1213 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. TTY users should call 1-800-325-0778.

Does Blue Shield offer dental coverage?

Answer:

Yes, dental coverage options are available with our Medicare Advantage plans and with our Medicare Supplement plans.

Are my prescriptions covered with Original Medicare?

Answer:

No, Original Medicare does not cover the costs of prescription drugs, but Blue Shield offers standalone Part D prescription drug plans that can help you save on your prescription drug costs.

Can I keep my doctor when I'm on Medicare?

Answer:

With a Blue Shield Medicare Supplement plan, you can use any doctor who accepts Medicare. With a Blue Shield Medicare Advantage Plan, you can use any doctor who accepts Medicare in our plan's network.

Will Original Medicare cover all of my medical expenses?

Answer:

Original Medicare will not cover all medical expenses. However, Blue Shield offers a range of plans to help you get coverage beyond Original Medicare.

When will my coverage start?

Answer:

If you enroll in one of Blue Shield's Medicare coverage options as soon as you're eligible, your coverage can begin as early as the first day of the month you turn 65.
